Convince a client to visit a particular travel destination Essay
Convince a client to visit a particular travel destination - Essay Example ng from the travel and stay of non-residents, in so far as they do not lead to permanent residence and are not connected to any earning activityâ⬠(Cruz, 2006). Few of the major factors that can help in deciding the travel location are the purpose of the visit and the cash available to finance the visit. There are many different places within the world that can provide greatest entertainment along with perfect leisure time but the best place that provides both along with the greatest value of money is Dubai. It is also considered to be a business hub; hence many people also consider it to be a business spot. Dubai has expanded at a rapid rate over the last decade or so. The city has gained significant importance since the last decade. This is because of the increased developmental projects within the city. The city has expanded and blossomed quickly and it has recently caught the eye of a large chunk of tourists from around the globe. Long listening assignment Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words
Long listening assignment - Essay Example The signature line of this song involved the simultaneous playing of the tenor trumpet (Dizzy) and the alto Saxophone (Sonny) at a difference of an octave. The octave effect is pronounced all throughout the songs whenever the noted of the opening line notation is played. The opening line is played twice in the beginning of the piece and is used as a closing stanza in the performance. Another noteworthy feature of the opening lines is that when the trumpet-saxophone combination plays the notes the drums, bass and piano remain on mute, and when the trumpet-saxophone goes on mute, the drum, bass and piano repeat the same rhythm. This gives the jazz rendition a question-answer feel, as if the trumpet-saxophone combination was engaged in a conversation with the rhythm section of the jazz band. The opening line also known as the signature phrase or signature line of the jazz composition starts at 0:09 seconds of the video documentary. Dizzy Gillespie and Sonny Stitt are seen taking the cen tre front of the stage, leading the Jazz Quintet. The audience is quiet and well settled and seen enjoying the dextrous rendition of classical jazz of this Quintet. At the back row are the following artistes: pianist Lou, bassist Ray and drummer Gus lined up left to right. The composition is based on medium tempo on duple (4/4 rhythm). The first line is rendered from 0:09 to 0:35 seconds of the video. The signature line is repeated again from 0:35 to 1:05. The rhythm accompaniment begins at 1:00 on the completion of the first stanza or the opening stanza (consisting of 2 repetitions of the signature line). The first solo commences from 1:32. Dizzy Gillespie plays the first solo that sets the expectations from this musical piece. Once Dizzy starts playing the timbre, texture and original tonal quality of the trumpet can be identified. He starts playing from the higher octave. The notes played by Dizzy are clear, bold and distinct from one another. His style represents clarity and con fidence. He does well in varying the amplitude and therefore the emphasis on certain notes by controlling the air pressure through light whistles and hard blows into the trumpet pipe. Dizzy remain calm, composed and relaxed throughout the performance. He takes time from until 2:02 seconds playing with the tempo and at a slow pace. He is seen smiling at the audience and his fellow-performers, turning left to Sonny and saying something to him between 2:00 and 2:03 seconds of the video. He demonstrates stunning control over his instrument at 2:16 playing an impromptu solo, manoeuvring the trumpet keys and weaving a fantastic note progression involving chromatic note progression (i.e., playing consecutive notes to create a dissonance). From 2:35 to 2:45 Dizzy moves along with the rhythm and creates beautiful composition and at 2:46 he plays a dissonant pattern. Once again at 3:16 Dizzy pulls off an incredibly fast and tough solo putting the audience at awe. From 3:35 till 3:40 amplitude modulation is brought out in its best form by regulating the air pressure. Dizzy modulates the pitch and frequency with ease. At 3:46 he gracefully pulls of another sweep of note progression. A gradual descent in the form 4 repetitions down the higher and middle conclude his solo exactly at 4:00 of the video. At this point in time Sonny Stitt takes the centre stage with his solo on the saxophone. The

The Marketing Concept Essay Example for Free
The Marketing Concept Essay When one thinks about marketing, many different things come into mind; however, the actual definition of Marketing Concept is: ââ¬Å"identifying consumer needs and then producing the goods or services that will satisfy them while making a profit for the organization.â⬠(Gitman McDaniel, 2008) Basically, the marketing concept comes down to being able to offer the consumers something that they find valuable. Value is the key term that comes into play. The marketing concept consists of: 1. ââ¬Å"Focusing on customer wants so the organization can distinguish its production from competitorââ¬â¢s offerings. â⬠(Gitman McDaniel, 2008) 2. ââ¬Å"Integrating all of the organizationââ¬â¢s activities, including production, to satisfy these wants.â⬠(Gitman McDaniel, 2008) 3. ââ¬Å"Achieving long-term goals for the organization by satisfying customer wants and needs legally and responsibily.â⬠(Gitman McDaniel, 2008) Many businesses from around the globe have already started to take advantage of this concept. From Disneyââ¬â¢s Fast Pass to Enterprise Rent-A-Car, companies are adjusting their old business models and techniques in order to accommodate the needs and desires of their customers. This has enabled them to step above the competition and to set themselves apart from others in their industry. The marketing concept focuses on the above mentioned items for a reason, in order to increase the businessesââ¬â¢ bottom line and to satisfy their current customer bases, while drawing new customers because of their exceptional customer service model. Principles of Human Resource Management
Principles of Human Resource Management 1. Introduction I will attempt to explain, research, apply the knowledge to my organisation make recommendations, and provide new knowledge for the following five key learning points: A company/business cannot grow without, until its leaders grow withinà [3]à , The key to retention of the right people is role sculpting, Mentoring is not coaching, The rate at which an organisation learns may become the only sustainable source of competitive advantageà [4]à , and Diversity is inclusivity. 2. Key Learning Points 2.a) Key Learning Point A company/business cannot grow without, until its leaders grow withinà [5]à Synthesis The premise of John Maxwells statement and this key learning point is that leaders growth precedes company growth and the companys growth is directly related to that of its leaders growth. Leaders growth is also be extended to growth of managers and employees, creation of a learning organization. Research Research on this key learning point indicates the following process to grow the business by growing its leaders: Creating a climate for potential leadersà [6]à , The environment has to be conducive for change, an environment in which people will excel, an environment which will automatically produce individual growth and therefore company growth, and most importantly of all, a positive environment. Identifying potential leadersà [7]à , The right person for the job has to be selected that has / will have the ability to influence people to achieve company goals. This is not an easy task. The potential downside is if the wrong person is hired you are committed and reversing the decision is costly is all respects. Nurturing potential leadersà [8]à , According to John C Maxwell, nurturing is not only about rewarding with money / shares etc. but its also about changing the person life by believing in them, encouraging them, sharing with them and trusting themà [9]à Equipping potential leadersà [10]à , The person is given the given the ongoing training they require for their current roles and responsibilities Developing potential leadersà [11]à , The person is given the given the ongoing development they require for the position with the focus being gearing up for the future. Coaching potential leadersà [12]à , The employee is equipped, empowered in their current roles and responsibilities Realizing the value to and from potential leadersà [13]à . Harnessing the growth in the employees to achieve company growth. It is important that the growth is perpetuated throughout the organization, a learning culture. Application Our business is a family owned property development, construction and property investment business. It grew organically to a point where an executive management team was appointed (sourced internally externally) to take the business forward, as the owners felt that they did not have the skills to do so. This management team has had the necessary training. Development is currently being undertaken by WBS MAP and a mentorship program; however, this is in reality a coaching program. The following issues have been identified: Learning / growth is only happening at an executive management level and not below, The owners are battling to let go. This creates uncertainty in the executive management team and is not a positive environment conducive to change, Nurturing has taken place but trust remains an issue, and Coaching has taken place albeit under the guise of mentorship. The following are the recommendations: A learning culture should be created throughout the organization, For learning and change to take place, confidence is needed in the executive management team. This will require the owners to let go and trust in their appointees, Systems, procedures together with levels of authority are required for decision making to alleviate the trust issue, and A properly structured mentorship program is required. New Knowledge We need to develop and surround ourselves with leaders as we are only as good as those that report to us. This will form the basis of a very good team. Doing this will enhance our effectiveness by creating leverage through staff. This will enable us to drive the strategies of the organisation. 2. Key Learning Points (contd) 2.b) Key Learning Point The key to retention of the right people is role sculpting Synthesis Retaining the right people (talent war) for the right position and employee mobility is a worldwide problem as people below the age of 35 years move jobs every 5 years and in South Africa every 2.5 yearsà [14]à . Job sculpting is the art of matching people to roles that allows: 1) Their deeply imbedded life interests, 2) Their abilities, and 3) Their values. This is expressed in work satisfaction and commitment, and leads to growth and success.à [15]à Research Business environments are continually changing and consequently the role of the employee needs to follow suit. Strategically and using the HR Database, a GAP analysis is performed of where we are now versus where we want to be. A decision is then made as to the role of the employee (with employee engagement and employee consent [positive buy-in]). Implementation is then planned and executed. It is a given and of paramount importance that career management and career development have and are still taking place. It is also a given that the right person, at the right time, with the right complimentary talents is required. Once again this comes from the HR Database. It is also a given that Role description and role specification are required. The sculpted role is then monitored through performance management. Application Role sculpting does not exist within the organisation for which I work. Retention of talent is done by paying above market salaries and talent mobility has not been a problem since the world economic crisis started in 2008. GAP analyses are performed resulting in changed employee roles, however employee consultation requires attention. Strategies are effective executed but there is need for a HR Database. There is also a need for career management and career development have and are still taking place. Role description and role specification are done. The new role is monitored through performance management. New Knowledge The retention of the RIGHT people is hugely important due to the skills shortages being experienced in the country. What I have found personally is that skills available out there have become more expensive than the existing skills we have bought over the past 3 to 5 years. What Im raising here is that companies are paying above market salaries for an average skill due to the shortage thereof. Staffing and retention of staff has become challenging and complex, hence the importance of the key to retention of the right people is role sculpting. 2. Key Learning Points (contd) 2.c) Key Learning Point Mentoring is not coaching Synthesis Mentoring IS NOT the same coaching as is often confused by organizations. Mentoring is voluntary process focusing on relationships, guidance and advice. The outcome of mentoring is EMPOWERMENT. A mentor does not teach. Coaching is a compulsory process with the focus on teaching within the employees roles and responsibilities. The outcome of coaching is TRANSFORMATION. A coach teaches. Mentoring and coaching form part of training and development and both build peoples confidence through their successes. Research Per the CIPD (Chartered Institute of Development), London, surveysà [16]à the use of mentoring and coaching as part of a broader HR personal developmental tool is on the increase, with 72% of companies surveyed using mentoring and 63% using coaching. The use of mentoring and coaching is used as part of a broader HR personal developmental tool. Mentoring refers to a developmental relationship with a more experienced expert and a less experienced (and usually younger) protà ©gà ©. The use of the term coaching on the other hand (as in the art of coaching people) has its origins in English traditional university cramming in the mid 19th Century.à [17]à Per an article written by Jo Lamb on 24 April 2008, Workplace Coaching and Mentoring, Exploring the Key Differences to Maximise Personal Developmentà [18]à , Mentoring and coaching are similar in light of enabling employees (therefore employers) to try and gain full potential by leverage with the employee. However, the fundamental differences are 1) Timing mentoring does not have a time frame and can go on indefinitely (even through career changes) but coaching does have a very specific time frame, 2) Experience and qualifications mentors are experienced in the field they are mentoring in whereas coaches are not necessarily experienced in this field, and 3) Focus in mentoring is not as specific as that of coaching. The success of the coaching and mentoring programs were questioned as they were more often than not left to managers who did not always have the time and sometimes ability to see the process through to fruition. I dont necessarily agree with the fundamental timing difference 1) above as mentors within an organisation are bound by time. You could however have an outside mentor who could mentor you across many employments. I also dont agree with experience and qualification in 2) above. My opinion is that this is the reverse; coaches have specific knowledge whereas mentors may have specific knowledge but the mentoring takes place on a generalist level and specific job knowledge is not required. Application Mentoring takes place within the organization for which I work, but I feel that the mentors were not properly trained. This was key to the process not working as intended. There was only one mentor for each mentee and confidentiality was an issue. Coaching does take place, but it is ad hoc and informal. There is a need for coaching to be formalized. New Knowledge There is an ongoing argument that mentoring and coaching can be viewed as the same within training and development. I do however feel that the mentoring is empowering and coaching is transforming. The biggest downfall of mentoring and coaching programs is the whether they take place correctly, or if at all (monitoring and feedback sessions would be required, and whether the coaches and mentors are properly qualified to mentor and coach respectively. 2. Key Learning Points (contd) 2.d) Key Learning Point The rate at which an organisation learns may become the only sustainable source of competitive advantageà [19]à Synthesis (15) Research (30) Application (30) New Knowledge (20) 2. Key Learning Points (contd) 2.e) Key Learning Point Diversity is inclusivity Synthesis (15) Research (30) Application (30) New Knowledge (20)

US History :: essays research papers
Even before the eve of the Revolution, the colonists constantly had the image of independence lingering in the back of their heads. The colonists felt that they were first on a loose leash, and as that leash tightened over the years, the colonists began to understand their true culture and identity. As time passed, the colonists developed a greater sense of their identity and unity as Americans and by the eve of the Revolution, even though at first the colonists were unorganized and had problems with being united, they remained determined to gain their identity and unity as Americans.à à à à à à à à à à The most significant factor in that time period was unity. The wrath of intercolonial disunity slowly dissolved as time went on. Enormous distances between colonies, geographical barriers like rivers, conflicting religions, varied nationalities, different types of governments, boundary disputes, and resentment amongst themselves were the factors involving disunity. However, the colonists over time started to understand that they were all fellow Americans who shared common ideals. In 1754, the Pennsylvania Gazette showed the colonists an image that would show that unification was essential for independence. It was a picture of a snake that was cut into little parts and each part was a place. The snake depicts the image of independence, and without the unification of all its parts, it will not be complete. The title ââ¬Å"JOIN, or DIEâ⬠of this drawing is demanding. The author of this drawing wanted to say that if the colonists wanted to achieve independence, they must unite and fight together for their common cause (A). In regards to unity, during 1774 and 1775, there were 17 contributors of Donations for the Relief of Boston. This astonishing number of contributors reflects the desire and willingness for unification. It shows that from anywhere as north as Massachusetts and as south as South Carolina, the colonies wanted to help each other out when another was in need. This fact is clearly evident that indeed America was slowly but surely trying to unite and fight as one (G). Another piece of evidence, which was composed in the 1770ââ¬â¢s, can be seen in the Letters from an American Farmer by Hector St. John Crà ¨vecoeur. The narrator in this letter says that he ââ¬Å"could point out to you a family whose grandfather was an Englishman, whose wife was Dutch, whose son married a French womanâ⬠(H). This quote shows that people were creating a new race, which in return, brings unification amongst different nationalities in colonial America.

The Yellow Wallpaper :: essays research papers
We Must Creep to be Heard à à à à à Itââ¬â¢s 2:00am and I cannot sleep. I toss and turn while the question, ââ¬Å"Why didnââ¬â¢t you stand up for yourself?â⬠keeps playing over and over in my mind. The picture in my mind of a subjugated woman who feebly attempts to fight against feminine oppression and her impending insanity is vivid and disturbing and continues to slap against the recesses of my mind with an angry hand. What was Charlotte Perkins Gilman attempting to convey to her readers when she wrote ââ¬Å"The Yellow Wallpaperâ⬠and created the characters of the narrator, her husband John, Mary and her sister-in-law Jennie? Obviously, in an exaggerated version of her own experience with post-partum depression and its prescribed ââ¬Å"rest cureâ⬠, Gilman speaks of a world in which the female is forced into a role of the submissive counterpart to male dominance. In the following pages, I will describe how Gilman has effectively created characters that draw us into their vie w of control, dominance and frustrated silence against imprisonment in a paternalistic society, and how we are given a view into a perfectly healthy mind that goes awry. à à à à à To begin with, Gilman created the narrator as a nearly anonymous identity; we know her only as Johnââ¬â¢s wife. This power imbalance extends to other areas of their relationship. John dominates her in a progressively patronizing manner. His character is displayed as strong, practical and stereotypically masculine and he seems skeptical of her seemingly weak, feminine condition. John diagnoses her problem, and prescribes the ââ¬Å"rest cureâ⬠he believes she needs. The narrator has no say in her condition, and when she attempts to speak her mind, he treats her like a child and makes light of her voice. ââ¬Å"John laughs at me, of course, but one expects thatâ⬠(An Introduction to Fiction 572) which illustrates the role women are expected to play and accept in a marriage. Another main function Gilman gave of Johnââ¬â¢s control over the narrator is his inhibiting of her writing. Although she believes writing would help her condition, as Iââ¬â¢m s ure Gilman did, John insists it would only debilitate her ailment further. He stifles her creativity and intellect, forcing her into the role of the submissive wife. She is forced to hide her writings, which frustrate her more ââ¬Å"I did write for a while in spite of them; but it does exhaust me a good dealââ¬âhaving to be so sly about it, or else meet with heavy oppositionâ⬠(572).
Should We Abolish Pennies?
What would it be like without pennies? Without them we canââ¬â¢t use them for changes. Life would be different without pennies. Everything will have to change if we take out pennies in the U. S. If we donââ¬â¢t have pennies, then everything will be rounded off to the nearest five or ten cents. All the products with extra changes in the sale will have to change the amount of its costs to a point where no penny is needed. Thatââ¬â¢s more work for the workers to do, making all the costs of the items in the store into an amount where pennies arenââ¬â¢t needed. What would happen to the 99 cents store? If the pennies were to be gone, it wonââ¬â¢t have the 99 cents store anymore. Sure they can change the cost of items to a dollar, but that is one cent more than the customers used to pay. That may not sound like a lot of money, but think about it, if you buy one hundred items for one hundred dollars, you couldââ¬â¢ve save one dollar and one dollar can save a personââ¬â¢s life from starvation. And if they change it to 95 cents, they will lose profit. The sign of the store will have to be changed to whatever cost they decided to change the items to, but they canââ¬â¢t change the sign to ââ¬Å"$1 Storeâ⬠because there are already a store called that. And if they do change the sign, that means that they have to use their own money to get the new sign, which also means theyââ¬â¢ll have less money to use for other necessary things for the store. The sources say that the penny is the lowest denomination coin, but if it were to be gone, the nickel would be the lowest denomination coin. Would it end up like the pennies and would be abolish in the future years? Even if the pennies were to be completely gone, the nickels will have the same complaints that the pennies were having and the complaints of the lowest denomination coin will go on and on until there is no coins left. In taking the pennies off, memories of Abraham Lincoln will be gone. All the things Lincoln did for the U. S. will fade away. We will no longer see him in coins, the 16th president will be less recognized without having a penny as his memory source. Abraham Lincoln will be forever remember with the pennies! This is how it would be like without pennies. Everything will be rounded off up or down. Would you want that to happen? Would you want Abraham Lincolnââ¬â¢s memories to fade away? Every penny counts, just as ââ¬Å"every vote countsâ⬠. We must save the pennies!
